Misbah for Captain

Best Blog Tips

Misbah Ul Haq is doing every thing he can to make the potential announcement of Shahid Afridi as Pakistan Captain for the world cup, look ridiculous.

During the 4th tie-breaking ODI against New Zealand, while Shahid Afridi, was in the dressing room waiting his turn to bat, biting his fingers, muttering his prayers and holding his bladder like a bride waiting for her late and reluctant groom; with 70 odd to get in 9 overs; Misbah was masterminding a calm chase; ignoring all calls from Afridi to go 'free hitting'.

Unless Ijaz Butt is waiting for Salman to to acquitted; appointing Misbah as Pakistan's captain seems to make the most logical sense to me.

Since when was Ijaz Butt renowned for his logical and sensible decision - making! :-)

But yes, it was a beautifully paced innings from Misbah to win it at Napier for Pakistan!

Changing the ODI captain at this time can only plunge Pak cricket into further chaos. Misbah is being a great team player, why screw up Afridi's mood by changing captain?

I personally have a tough time accepting Afridi as captain. I never felt he understands game situations, is far too impulsive and constantly lives on the edge

Gol - I agree with your assessment of Afridi. But isn't that exactly what Pakistan cricket is all about? How does calm, calculating Misbah fit in with that?

because they have always needed that kind of leaders to get the best out of temperamental players. Imran Khan and Inzamam are good examples.

Mishab is neither of them but still the best choice from available choices

Also I wrote this post after watching him engineer a successful chase and basically ignoring Afridi's frantic calls to "get on with it" when 10 overs were remaining and 80 odd to get

Afridi on his part came to bat, slogged his first ball for 4 and fell lbw to a premeditated sweep trying for another 4

He clearly wanted to push the pedal too fast too early

misbah showed (to afridi and world) exactly why and how pak lost many games they could have won in the end...

This is what I call being in violent agreement. Afridi is now the captain against perhaps our best judgement. I feel this is Pakistan cricket in a nutshell.

Gol- I would put Miandad up there instead of Inzy. Miandad had the best of both worlds - he knew his crew and could relate to them and had a calm, calculating mind.
