Nagpur Test: Random Thoughts II

Best Blog Tips

  1. The kind of day that has eliminated any thoughts of a New Zealand upset and set up an Indian win. And if that were not enough to draw in the crowd, the day has beautifully set up Sachin's push for the 50th. Why leave it for a different hemisphere when you can do it in the North.
  2. Sehwag and Gambhir seem to have found their rhythm again. It is hard to imagine that a combination as recent as theirs is already challenging and in many cases surpassed more storied partnerships for India. The are hot on their heels to surpass the iconic VVS-Dravid partnership and they are already ahead of Gavaskar and Chauhan.
  3. Tomorrow seems to be the kind of day that would make the New Zealanders  hesitate before they get out of their beds. Its like the script is finalized and they simply have to turn up and play the parts they dislike. Chris Martin with the new ball may come with a sequel of his own....who knows
  4. Its hard to imagine that New Zealand think going into the match that the limping duo of Jesse Ryder and McCullum is better than a fully fit someone else and they are proven right

India could have done even more better if Sehwag stayed for 8-10 overs more. The lead would've been 150 by now.Still,we have the edge.

"Edge" is putting it mildly sir. We own this test match now.

India need to declare early enough to give the bowling attack enough overs to buy wickets. Dravid and Tendulkar's strike rates are pathetic. Without Zak, a repeat first innings performance from the bowlers cannot be taken for granted. IMO, this is where Tendulkar sometimes loses the plot. He did this with his 194* in Pak, his 156 and 241 in Aus.

His 241 was indeed a very slow innings and one of the solower 200s of all time. And when I think back at that test match, you are papbably right we did run out of time. I guess it was a combination of Sachin's slow batting and Ganguly's delayed declaration. But I feel trivial to fault a man who scored 241 when we was clearly out of form. Had he tried to force the pace who knows....he was in the kind of form that would have easily gotten him out

As they say the exception proves the rule. In all his 49 centuries, I am finding fault with only 3. One of which (194*) didn't really matter because India won anyways. My point is that India need to pick up the pace, otherwise, there is a small chance that we run out of time, given the unpredictability of the bowling attack.

@Vidooshak,what is that 156 in Australia, you're talking about? I remember Sachin scoring both his 150s in 2007/08 tour at a very decent pace.(63-65 in Sydney and 75+ in Adeliade-very aggressive for a Test match.)

i too don't remember any slow 150 by SRT in Australia
